Bonnigal Bodet Vignerons
Review
From 50- to 70-year-old vines on clay and flint over Aquitaine limestone (in conversion to organic) with a yield of 30 hectoliters per hectare, the 2020 Chenin Clos de Beauce was vinified for eight months in 620-liter barrels and is as dense and intense as it is pure and elegant on the fascinating, complex and coolish, refined and seductive nose. The palate is round, dense, fresh and crystalline and provided with persistent mineral energy, uplifting saline acidity and fine tannin grip that carries the still-young wine to a long and promising, always pure and terroir-driven finish. 14.5% stated alcohol? Just on paper, not on the palate! There is remarkable finesse and balance here but also grip and tension. A great, tightly woven yet fine Chenin worth cellaring for a decade and longer. Natural cork. Tasted in June 2022. 94/100 Stephan Reinhardt
