Jable de Tao

Een fantastisch nieuw project op het oudste vulkanische Canarische Eiland, Lanzarote. Een gave combinatie van lokale druivenrassen, minimale interventie, laag alcohol en jonge 'new wave' energie die wil bewijzen dat ze met respect voor de natuur en mens, authentieke producten kunnen produceren met een groot herkomst gevoel. Alle wijngaarden zijn biologisch, sommige in eigendom en sommige van lokale telers. Een naam om in de gaten te houden!

Review

The 2022 Paraje Tenesar is named after a mountain very close to the sea where the soils are volcanic with limestone and sand. It's aromatic and honeyed but with restraint. The clean juice fermented in two 500-liter oak barrels, where the wine matured for eight months and then was transferred to a concrete egg for some three months. It has depth and a salty twist. 800 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2023. 93/100 Luis Gutiérrez

Jable de Tao Viñedo y Bodegas is a very recent project in Lanzarote (first vintage is 2022), a family winery with vineyards in La Geria, Tao, Tinajo and Macher, some owned, and they also purchased some grapes from local growers. All vineyards are organically farmed, but the wines are not yet certified. Winemaker is Carmelo Peña. In 2022, they produced some 15,000 bottles, and in 2023, they got a bumper crop and got 60,000 kilos of grapes! In the first vintage, 100% of the oak was new, so the wines have a certain creaminess and some aromatic impact from the oak that should diminish in future vintages. In 2022, they also produced two reds that will be in élevage for one more year. In future vintages, they might produce some more wines. No known US importer. Prices are on the high side and reflect the ambition of the project.
