Javi Revert

New wave Spanje! Javi is gevestigd in het achterland van Valencia, Tossal de Angel. Waar de bodem kalkrijk is en waar de grote coöperaties heersen voor bulkwijn met hoge alcoholpercentages op het laaggelegen gebied. Javi heeft met zijn ervaring een paar percelen uitgekozen uit de oude familie vallei (fruit werd verkocht). De vallei ligt op een noord helling, redelijk hoog (650 m) en bestaat uit kalkrijke bodems. Hij werkt er volledig biodynamisch om het maximale uit de mediterrane druivenrassen te zoals: Tortosí, Trepadell, Malvasía, Merseguera, Verdil en Arcos te halen. Ook plant hij hoog gelegen op de helling een nieuwe terraswijngaard aan met Grenache noir en Arcos. Daarnaast een project met zijn goede vriend Victor Marquez in Utiel-Requena waar ze van twee percelen heerlijke pure rode sappige wijnen maken met een mediterrane touch! 

Review

The 2020 Simeta has a fresh Mediterranean profile very different from the 2019, as 2020 was a year of full ripeness to express the character of the Arcos grape, a long-cycle grape with big and lose bunches and grapes with thick skins. It has Mediterranean color and aromas, the fresh undergrowth of aromatic herbs. It has fine tannins and good grip. This has 14.3% alcohol, so it's not a shy red, with good balance and a powerful palate. It matured in 500-liter oak barrels for 10 months followed by a further six months in concrete eggs. It's not a light and fresh vintage; it's a powerful, ripe and Mediterranean year, more classical with the concentration from the sandy soils. To me, this is a new expression of Arcos, departing from the style of the 2018, weightless but powerful, concentrated but fresh. This should be long lived. 1,600 bottles. 96/100 Luis Gutiérrez

Javi Revert is one of the best young winemakers from the Mediterranean zone of Spain. After years working for Celler del Roure, he started his own personal project. He also has a joint venture with a friend (also ex-Celler del Roure) and is the winemaker at Finca Sandoval. He has completed with plantings to have 10 hectares, half old vines planted by his grandfather and the other half planted by him, to have the grapes for the planned 25,000 bottles by 2026. He now makes some 12,000 bottles. He's conducting soils studies to achieve more precision in his wines. 2019 and 2020 were two very different vintages: 2019 had catastrophic torrential rains (the famous cold spell) of up to 300 liters in a few days in September in the middle of the harvest, whereas 2020 was a much better vintage, healthy and with very good quality, eminently Mediterranean.
