Paul & Marie Jacqueson

Henri Jacqueson is in 1946 één van de eerste pioniers die deze wijnen weer aan is gaan bieden na de tweede wereldoorlog. Dit nadat hij het stuk land van zijn ouders geërfd had. In het jaart 1972 kwam Paul Jacqueson in het bedrijf van zijn vader terecht en stukje bij beetje nam hij de teugels van hem over. In 2006 werd het stokje wederom binnen de familie overgedragen. Inmiddels is het de dochter van Paul, Marie, die de familietraditie voortzet. Marie koopt in 2011 een nieuwe vinificatie ruimte over van een failliete coöperatie van Rully, een nieuwe stap voorwaarts!

De wijngaarden liggen voornamelijk in Rully en deels in Mercurey en Bouzeron. Men produceert 60% witte wijnen en 40% rood. Alle druiven worden manueel geoogst en op de traditionele Bourgondische wijze gevinifieërd. 12 maanden rijping op eiken vaten (20 tot 25% nieuw).

Review

Aromas of fresh peach, orange oil and white flowers preface the 2018 Rully Blanc, a medium-bodied, succulent wine that's elegantly fleshy and expressive. It's already drinking well.

I was able to taste these two wines from Domaine Jacqueson in Beaune days before France went into lockdown—frustrating for another year my ambitions to visit this well-respected Rully domaine. William Kelley 88/100

Domaine Paul & Marie Jacqueson is one of the benchmark addresses in the Côte Chalonnaise, so when they weren't able to receive me for a tasting during my May visit, I purchased a few bottles from a local caviste to review. Readers who follow these wines won't be surprised to hear that they're as deliciously drinkable as ever. Prices are reasonable, and keen observers will note that the Jacqueson's offerings are often to be found on the wine lists of France's better restaurants, where they typically represent good value. Overall, I would describe these as open-knit, supple and succulent wines that exemplify the Côte Chalonnaise's virtues without transcending expectations in terms of depth and complexity.
