Pichler-Krutzler

Elisabeth Pichler, afkomstig uit Wachau en Erich Krutzler uit Zuid-Burgenland starten samen in 2006, nadat zij in het huwelijksbootje zijn gestapt in 2005,  een wijngoed in het dorp Oberloiben. Een gebied wat bekend staat om hun Grüner Veltliner en Riesling. Genesteld langs de rivier de Donau werken met respect voor de natuur.

Elke wijn die zij maken is een natuurlijke weerspiegeling van het Terroir van deze regio, voor mij persoonlijk ook een van de eerste eigenschappen die een wijn moet hebben. Daarnaast vind er minimale interventie plaats in de kelder, geen toevoegingen van gistculturen en enzymen. Dit zorgt voor een prachtig eindresultaat, pure, onvervalste wijnen, met een hoge inzetbaarheid in de topgastronomie, die een weerspiegeling geven van het prachtige gebied waarin Pichler Krutzler zich bevindt.

Pichler-Kruzler behoord tot de top van Oostenrijk, maar de termen “Federspiel en “Smaragd” staan niet op de etiketten. Dit komt omdat ze een aantal keuzes hebben gemaakt. Ze bottelen een rode wijn uit de familiewijngaard uit Zuid-Burgenland en bottelen een ook wijn uit de regio Krems, uit de Pfaffenberg wijngaard.

Review

The 2017 Ried Kellerberg Grüner Veltliner offers a concentrated and aromatic, coolish, flinty and herbal bouquet. Round and lush on the palate, this is a generous and initially creamy-textured Veltliner, yet with more aeration, it becomes vital, refined and tensioned, with mineral grip and shining fruit. Crystalline and tight, the 2017 Kellerberg is still closed, but it's full of energy, tension and aging potential. The wine currently has more flesh and fine tannins and doesn't breathe as much as the 2018, but this is only the very first impression. However, there is grip, salt and tension, and in the end, it won't be far behind the 2018, if you like to have a ranking. I discovered that the wine starts to breathe and shine with one hour of aeration. Tasted at the domain in September 2019. Stephan Reinhardt 94/100

Erich Krutzler is even happier with his 2018s than he was with his 2017s. The harvest started on August 30 and went until the end of September. "We got it all in one go in crazy hot weather," he reports. Although we started at six o'clock in the morning, we always picked through until the early afternoon and then put all the boxes (300 kilograms) into the rented refrigerated container and only processed the grapes in the evening and at night." The resulting wines are terrific again, with structure, grip and tension. The Kellerberg is again extraordinary in Veltliner and Riesling, and the Pfaffenberg Alte Reben Grüner Veltliner but also the Riesling prove once again that the site is one of the most exciting ones of the former Wachau, today Kremstal. Surprisingly, Krutzler also produced great and pretty coolish Loibenberg Riesling despite the heat, the loess soils and the lower location of his plots. All in all, 2018 is a great vintage for Pichler-Krutzler and is further establishing the domain among the best along the Danube River. This is also proven by older vintages that I had the chance to taste spontaneously along with the 2018s.
