Coto de Gomariz

Dit wijnhuis word gezien als een van de meest toonaangevende van de regio Galicië. Ze hebben veel werk gedaan voor het herstellen van de vallei waar zij in gelegen zijn bij de Gomariz abdij. Door de ligging, focus op inheemse druivenrassen en de zeer bijzondere ondergrond kunnen zij ontzettend sterke en bijzondere wijnen maken. Voor wit Treixadura en rood de pittige druif Sousón de baas. De witte wijnen zijn aromatisch met een beetje ondersteuning van eikenhout, daar het rood stoer en intens uitpakt met een tikje klassiek.

Review

They kept separate the Godello that was blended before, and they liked it so much that they decided to bottle it and release it as 2022 X Godello. It was produced with grapes from a one-hectare plot from their vineyard O Taboleiro, which was planted in 2008 on granite sandy soils that keep the acidity. It has good ripeness and development of aromas and flavors, 13% alcohol and very good freshness (pH 3.1). I was very pleasantly surprised. The wine is elegant, serious and balanced, with austerity in the palate, very precise and detailed. 2,000 bottles were produced. It was bottled unoaked in May 2023. 93/100 Luis Gutiérrez

There is a significant change at Coto de Gomariz, as the long-time winemaker left in May 2022 and the new winemaker is Inma Pazos, who has been in charge of the Ailalá-Alilaleo project for a long time, together with proprietor Ricardo Carreiro and external consultant Jean-François Hebrard. This year they have a new varietal Godello, and I expect further changes and news in the future. They produce 90,000 bottles from their 32 hectares of vineyards.
