Sigaut

Anne en Hervé Sigaut bezitten 7 hectare in het kleine pittoreske maar oh zo bekende plaatsje Chambolle Musigny. Sinds een aantal jaren wordt hier de stap gezet voor topkwaliteit druiven te telen. Er wordt geploegd met een paard en er wordt gewerkt volgens de maankalender. Weinig tot bijna geen interventie en nieuw houtgebruik. Veel oude stokken in bezit. Ook volgens de internationale pers een van de absolute topdomeinen in de Bourgogne.

Review

Notes of red cherries, dried flowers and blood orange introduce the 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Noirots, a medium to full-bodied wine that's broad and velvety, with a bright line of lively acidity and a more powdery tannic grain thanks to some stem inclusion. The Sigauts own three parcels that total half a hectare in this premier cru; two parcels are characterized by rich red soil and the third is much richer in limestone.

Domaine Anne & Hervé Sigaut is a superb source of pure, supple and expressive wines from an enviable palette of premiers crus, so it's perplexing that this seven-hectare Chambolle domaine isn't better known. Work in the vineyards is close to organic, though the Sigauts reserve the right to spray if it's necessary to save their crop. In the cellar, the grapes are generally destemmed and macerations last for three weeks. New oak is judiciously employed, with up to one-third new barrels for the premiers crus, so it is the fruit and fragrance of Chambolle that take pride of place. William Kelley 92/100
