All time favourite!
Review
The young and unoaked 2022 Vino Blanco was produced with 70% Godello and the remaining 30% other whites, Treixadura, Albariño, Torrontés and Loureira from different plots in different villages with different soils, expositions and altitudes, trying to replicate the whites from the past, which were always blends. It's very young, very balsamic with marked notes of bay leaves, and it has a savory palate with a velvety texture, juicy and structured but keeping very good freshness and balance. It has a moderate 12.5% alcohol. 10,000 bottles were produced. It was bottled in May 2023. 93/100 Luis Gutiérrez
Guímaro doesn't stop experimenting; they showed me three new wines this year, and they are testing granite eggs and doing some trials with fortified wines with the help of Niepoort. They have 16 hectares of vineyards and control a further 26 across Ribeira Sacra. They produce around 200,000 bottles, divided in 11 different labels. I tasted wines mostly from 2021 and 2022. 2021 could be considered a classical vintage; it was harvested between the 13th of September and 10th of October, the dates that were normal 15 or 20 years ago. Yields were good but the weather was challenging, with constant rain and cooler temperatures. The wines have a very fresh profile. 2022 was very warm in other regions, but they consider it very good for them, with the harvest taking place between the 13th of September and third of October. They had enough rain, the weather was not as extreme as in other regions and they achieved wines with a lot of freshness but with more structure than in 2021.
