Het nog jonge koppel Severin en Sabeth zijn goed op weg met het weer tot leven brengen van het oude familiedomein. Ze focussen zich volop op de wijngaarden en kwaliteit door o.a. meteen gecertificeerd biologisch te werken, en passen ze biodynamische praktijken toe. Geweldige prijs/kwaliteit verhouding die meteen goed scoort bij de critici vanaf het begin. Sinds 2024 de derde ster bij Falstaff en genomineerd voor "Newcomer of the Year".

Review

Vinified in used 500-liter tonneaux and bottled in March 2023, the unfiltered 2022 Auxerrois Tuniberg offers a clear, fresh and floral bouquet with chalky notes and reveals remarkable precision and coolish freshness. Sourced in the cooler Längental, this is an elegant and refined, stimulatingly pure and saline Auxerrois that tastes similar to Pinot Blanc. This is a very elegant and linear, precise and mineral white that is pretty unique in the Mathis wine world: precise and linear like a coolish Pinot Blanc (picked early at 85° to 86° Oechsle, vinified in larger used oak and bottled early) or, so to say, the Riesling in this Pinot world. It's a fascinating, palate-cleansing wine with good length and tension. Great gastronomic value. 12% stated alcohol. Diam cork. Tasted at the domaine in October 2023. 93/100 Stephan Reinhardt

Anyone looking for precious alternatives to Burgundy can find them in Germany. Although the finest Pinots here, regardless of color, cost around 100 or more euros, there are also excellent wines that cost less than half that and deserve our attention. For example, those from the Mathis brothers' winery in Merdingen on the Tuniberg, west of Freiburg.
