Coto de Gomariz

Dit wijnhuis word gezien als een van de meest toonaangevende van de regio Galicië. Ze hebben veel werk gedaan voor het herstellen van de vallei waar zij in gelegen zijn bij de Gomariz abdij. Door de ligging, focus op inheemse druivenrassen en de zeer bijzondere ondergrond kunnen zij ontzettend sterke en bijzondere wijnen maken. Voor wit Treixadura en voor rood is de pittige druif Sousón de baas. De witte wijnen zijn aromatisch met een beetje ondersteuning van eikenhout, daar het rood stoer en intens uitpakt met een tikje klassiek.

Review

The new red 2020 Ailalelo Castes Tintas comes from small plots of old vines planted with a mix of varieties, Sousón, Bastardo, Carabuñeira, Caíño Longo, Ferrol, Brancellao and others fermented with indigenous yeasts in a 3,000-liter French oak foudre, where it matured for 10 months. It has good ripeness, 13.3% alcohol and balancing acidity. It's expressive and aromatic, with some floral notes, spicy and with some notes from the élevage in oak. It's medium-bodied and the tannins are fine, and it finishes clean with tasty flavors. 4,000 bottles were produced. It was bottled in October 2022. 92/100 Luis Gutiérrez

Ailalá - Ailalelo is the sister project of Coto de Gomariz, with Inma Pazos in charge of winemaking. It's a 35,000-bottle project with vineyards in the Avia Valley. In 2021, they lost a substantial part of the crop because of hail the 31st of August! Such is the crazy weather... This year they showed me two new wines, a red from field blends of small old-vine plots and a high-altitude (450 meters) Godello.
